Kinetic-Avionic SBS-1er "Fourth Generation" with built in Air Band & FM Receiver
The Fourth Generation of the World's best selling Real Time Virtual Radar, (by a massive margin) was officially announced by Kinetic on May the 11th, 2009.
Identical in looks, size and shape to its predecessor, the new "er" prefix offers the user a BUILT-IN AIR BAND RECEIVER with additional FM Band (76-108MHz) coverage, controlled via your PC. The only distinguishing alterations to the new SBS-1er is an additional SMA antenna socket on the rear panel for the built in high performance receiver and the loss of the Ethernet power switch which is now automatic.
The SBS-1er is a receiver for Mode-S/ADS-B beacons of commercial airliners, sent on 1090MHz. This beacon transmits data like position, flight level, identification and other information of the aircraft. With the supplied software the received data is displayed on the PC in tabular and graphic format, showing the current traffic situation of the region. The max. distance up to which an aircraft can be monitored is approx. 400km, but is strongly influenced by local circumstances like obstructions etc.
The SBS-1er is connected to the PC with a USB or Ethernet cable, i.e. the computer must support USB (1.1 or 2.0) or have an Ethernet. The supplied software works with most Microsoft Windows™ OS from Windows 98SE (second edition) up. According to the manufacturer the support of USB interfaces was limited and incomplete with Win98SE, so there might be problems installing the required drivers. Earlier versions of Windows and other OS are not supported at the moment.
Supplied complete with antenna and BaseStation Virtual Radar software. The SBS-1er Pocket Radar allows you to track ADS-B aircraft on a PC- simulated radar screen and identifies and displays Mode-S equipped aircraft. The antenna connector on the SBS-1er is SMA, the supplied antenna comes with 5m cable. Others antennas can be used as long as they are suitable for 1090MHz, e.g. scanner antennas like discones or the Diamond D-707 active antenna. The supplied magnet base antenna performs best when installed on a metallic surface.
The received data is displayed in tabular and graphical format. The table shows identification, nationality, callsign, position, ground speed, heading, rate of ascend/descend etc. The graphical map displays the position and tracks of aircraft together with selected data for each a/c. Descents/Ascents are coloured differently, representing an up to date situation of the regional airspace. Various zoom levels allow detailed display of smaller regions, e.g. a nearby airport. An elevation view shows the vertical movements of tracked a/c.
The map also displays country boundaries and coastlines as well as waypoints, cities, airports etc. The these waypoints are stored in a simple text file format and can be easily extended.
Main Features: - Track Mode-S/ADS-B equipped aircraft in Real-Time - An invaluable tool for aircraft enthusiasts - Enhances operational efficiency at airfields - Easy to install, portable and lightweight - Real-Time aircraft position and identity data - Connect to laptop/desktop PC via USB or Ethernet - Powerful SBS-1 Basestation software included - Package includes all necessary components to connect to your PC
Advanced Functionality For the first time aircraft enthusiasts worldwide are able to directly monitor the skies in an unprecedented fashion. Additionally, the SBS-1er provides small and medium sized airfields with many of the safety and operational benefits previously only available to large international airports at a fraction of current radar costs. Coupled with a Mode-S/ADS-B transponder the SBS-1er becomes an invaluable tool in flight training operations.
Hardware Interfaces The receiver apparatus connects to your PC via USB 1.1 or 2.0. or Ethernet . An external magnetic mount antenna is provided. The SBS-1er is designed for portable use and can be powered directly from a suitable laptop PC via the USB port without the requirement for an external power supply. Additional tuned antennas, mounts and extension cables are available.
Software Interfaces The SBS-1er ships with the SBS-1er Basestation application providing an on-screen virtual radar display. This powerful application provides functionality including the identification of aircraft by callsign, altitude, speed and other parameters where such information is transmitted. SBS-1er Basestation provides the ability to assign notes with history to each aircraft as well as image data. The note files are stored in a standard XML format to facilitate easy information interchange with colleagues and friends.
MapMode-S MapMode-S is a unique sharing network to which the SBS-1er can be connected in order to contribute data. The received data is then consolidated and distributed back to connected users as a broadband data stream. MapMode-S users are then able to view data from the whole community of connected users. MapMode-S is a separate subscription service. An introductory free of fees service will be offered to all users registering their units at our online website.
